While researching a documentary about passionate elders following a life dream in their 80s and 90s, Alidra Solday (Producer/Director) met Granny D and was quickly captivated by her determination, feisty charm and commitment to making a difference. The result is this film, five years in the making.
Solday began her filmmaking career at age 58, and considers Granny D a role model for living life to the fullest with passionate commitment at any age. Despite the considerable challenges she faced while making a first film, Solday drew inspiration and strength from watching her footage of interviews with Doris, convinced that if Granny D could complete her historic walk one step at a time, she herself could complete the film.
Alidra Solday’s varied past includes art and portraiture, theatre performance, and time behind the camera as a documentarian. She maintains a psychotherapy practice in Manhattan.
Among the many who have helped in the making of this film are: award-winning producer
Janet Cole (Executive Producer), award-winning filmmaker Deborah Hoffmann (Story Consultant), independent filmmaker and editor of 50 films Yasha Aginsky (Supervising Editor), Professor of Cinema Studies at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts George Stoney (Project Advisor), award-winning composer for 13 films and 12 television shows Gary Pozner (Composer), and international filmmaker and teacher of film and video, Chandler Griffin (Videographer).
